Grass Roots: Mud Flags took place at We Out Here Festival at Abbots Ripton Farm, Cambridgeshire, part of a micro-residency in collaboration with the family activity area.
Festival visitors to We Out Here illustrated self-portraits and imagined landscapes onto recycled bedsheets, using mud borrowed from lake beds, woodlands and puddles - an experiment with earthworks onto fabric. Marks were applied using fallen branches as well as the body; footprints and handprints can be seen traversing the canvas, sometimes unintentionally, tracing the somatic ritual of the festival experience. Grass Roots celebrates and reframes festival mud as artistic medium.
